Diet Coke (1989)

George Michael appeared in a commercial for Diet Coke in 1989. The commercial made its debut January 30, 1989, during the American Music Awards. A sneak preview of the ad begun airing on MTV and American television networks five days before the full ad premiered.
The commercial featured an excerpt from his song “Hard Day” from the ‘Faith’ album. It was directed by British filmmaker Stephen Frears and filmed on location in Spain and in New York City.
George was a big winner at that year’s American Music Awards, winning Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist, and Favorite Soul/R&B Album for “Faith.”

Hitachi Maxell Cassette Tapes (Japan, 1980)

Wham!’s George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley appeared in three commercials for Hitachi Maxell’s UD-II cassette tape in Japan.
The duo had a little bit of fun, changing the lyrics of the song “Freedom” in the commercial. They rewrote the lyrics to “you’re the fish face I adore” as a joke.
I can’t wait to see you, why don’t you come here no more?
People think you’re pouting baby, you’re the fish face I adore! I can’t wait to see you!”
